Ukraine on Monday announced stricter security protocols for Kyiv public transport, schools and even parliament amid a major surge in Russian drone attacks it says are aimed at “paralysing” the Ukrainian capital.
Ukrainian Schools Implement Safety Measures Amidst Ongoing Risks
As Ukrainian children prepare to return to school after their summer break on Tuesday, the Kyiv regional military administration has issued directives to ensure safety. Officials have emphasized the need to avoid large gatherings in areas deemed to have a high level of risk.
Tymur Tkachenko, the head of the military administration, stated, “It is essential to prevent large gatherings of children, parents, and staff of educational institutions.” In response to these safety concerns, the city hall has announced plans to implement changes, including the option for remote learning, to safeguard students and staff during this critical period.
Emergency Measures for Parliament Amid Ongoing Threats
Parliament has established an underground shelter to enhance safety for its members in light of ongoing threats. Lawmaker Olga Vasyliuk-Smaglevska confirmed that in the event of danger, members of parliament (MPs) will have just 10 minutes to reach the shelter, which is equipped with seating for 330 individuals.
Vasyliuk-Smaglevska highlighted that prolonged air-raid alerts have broader implications, impacting not only the safety of citizens but also the functioning of businesses, logistics, transportation, schools, and kindergartens.
