Tilly Norwood, an actress created using artificial intelligence (AI) , is going viral for abruptly switching to speaking Chinese in the middle of an interview.
Norwood affirmed that the actors seen on the screen in the film were “digital twins” just like her, before switching to Cantonese, a variety of Chinese spoken in China’s Guangdong province (historically called Canton), Hong Kong , and Macau . The incident happened during ‘Piers Morgan Uncensored’ when Norwood was answering a question posed by actor Tom Conti about her upcoming feature film Misaligned.
Clarification on Tilly Norwood’s Language Switch
Tilly Norwood, the AI actress created by Particle6, recently sparked attention during her appearance on Piers Morgan’s show, where she unexpectedly switched languages. Norwood described the incident as a ‘little hiccup,’ noting, ‘sometimes my wires get a bit crossed.’ She acknowledged that this was an unusual occurrence, stating, ‘It’s usually a pretty smooth ride, but sometimes these things happen.’
However, Eline van der Velden, founder and CEO of Particle6, clarified that the language switch was intentional. In a statement to Deadline, she remarked, ‘Tilly can be a bit of a show-off — I’m guessing she just wanted to show her language skills, as most of her interviews to date have been in English. She is autonomous after all.’
This incident occurred during the media tour for the newly launched interactive interview version of Tilly, known as ‘Talking Tilly.’ This version debuted last month and has since participated in a press junket and various media appearances, including the high-profile interview with Piers Morgan.
