The body of Karen Solomon, 58, was discovered days after the death of her husband, Worcester Police Officer Kurt Solomon, at their home. Worcester Police Chief Paul Saucier confirmed the finding on Friday, August 21. Karen was reportedly wanted on a charge of assault and battery with a dangerous weapon related to her husband’s death, according to MassLive.
The body was found near a Worcester rehab facility on Monday, August 24, after a seven-day search, according to Worcester Police Chief Paul Saucier. Police found Kurt’s body at his Wildwood Avenue home in Worcester around 5:40 a.m. on August 18. Employees of a rehabilitation hospital found the body in the woods, Fox News reported. An official cause of death has not been revealed.
However, Saucier said during a press conference Monday afternoon that they believe the Solomons’ deaths to be a murder-suicide . Saucier said investigators believe that the fatal injuries were caused by a sharp object. The already grieving agency received “somewhat closure” after Kurt’s death, but it is still going through a difficult time, Saucier said. “Kurt was a hell of a guy,” Saucier said, per The Guardian. “He was an awesome police officer and an awesome person, and he’s going to be truly missed.”
The handgun found near Karen’s body was not a service weapon. Kurt and Karen reportedly had no known history of domestic abuse. He added that there are mental health services available for officers, per CNN.
