Daejon Love and Taylor Jamie Chan were arrested in Boise, Idaho, following allegations of scamming at least 26 women out of over $1.3 million. The two men reportedly posed as members of the San Francisco 49ers to carry out their fraudulent activities. This incident highlights ongoing concerns about scams targeting individuals through impersonation in the sports industry.
The US Attorney’s Office in Oregon added that the scheme ran for over four years affecting over 26 women, who have been interviewed by the FBI. Because of the sophistication involved in it, the scam was so widespread and was able to successfully run for over four years likely.
The statement from the US Attorney’s Office said that they would convince the women of “sincere romantic relationships with Love” and also establish that he is a “sophisticated investor. “Love had romantic relationships with many of the victims and told them he wanted to build wealth and a future together,” the statement read. The agency believes that there are “many more victims,” the Attorney Office state statement said. Love and Chan created apps to show fake bank and investment accounts with balances to the victims, the US Attorney’s Office said.
They would meet women via dating apps, with Jordan Love posing as a member of the 49ers squad and Taylor Jamie Chan posing as his financial advisor. Chan, meanwhile, posed as the brains behind Love’s “fortune worth tens of millions of dollars.
