The suspect in connection to the AMBER Alert issued across several California counties for a 14-year-old girl has been identified as 38-year-old Sergio Galvez Perez. The victim, Diana Galvez Ortega, and her father, Perez, were last seen on August 4 at about 2 am in Salinas, according to the California Highway Patrol.
The newborn was found dead north of Moss Landing on August 1, the Monterey County Sheriff’s Office said, per CBS News. Ortega has been described as 4 feet, 10 inches, 100 pounds, with black hair and brown eyes.
A postmortem exam found signs of traumatic injury, according to authorities. An AMBER Alert has been issued in Monterey, San Luis Obispo, Santa Barbara, Ventura, Kern, Los Angeles, San Bernardino, Riverside, San Diego, Orange, and Imperial Counties. Investigation Update on Diana Ortega
The sheriff’s office confirmed on Sunday that Diana Ortega is currently considered a victim in an ongoing investigation. Previously, authorities had issued a warrant for the arrest of a teenager on suspicion of murder related to this case.
“These allegations are extremely serious and are an important part of why locating Diana and ensuring her safety and well-being remain a priority,” stated the sheriff’s office.
Officials are encouraging anyone with information about the whereabouts of Ortega and the suspect to contact 911 immediately.
