Apple has been testing memory chips from China’s CXMT across product lines including iPhones and MacBooks, to mitigate a component shortage fueled by the AI boom, the Wall Street Journal reported on Sunday.
CXMT Expands Production Amid Supply Shortages
CXMT, a memory chip manufacturer, is reportedly considering the construction of a second memory-chip plant in Beijing to increase its production capacity. This development comes as laptop manufacturers HP and Acer begin incorporating CXMT memory chips into their devices sold outside the U.S., a move aimed at alleviating ongoing supply shortages in the market. As of now, Reuters has been unable to independently verify this report, and both Apple and CXMT have not responded to requests for comment on the matter.
