Wicketkeeper-batter Yastika Bhatia and batting all-rounder Anushka Sharma have been named captains of the India ‘A’ squads for the upcoming multi-format home series against Australia ‘A’, the BCCI said on Thursday.
India ‘A’ Announces Leadership for Upcoming T20 and 50-Over Matches
Anushka Sharma has been appointed as the captain of India ‘A’ for the upcoming T20 matches, with Sayali Satghare serving as her vice-captain. In addition, Yastika Bhatia will lead the 50-over squad and the red-ball team, with Anushka taking on the role of vice-captain in those formats.
Yastika, notable for being the first female batter to score a century in a Test match at Lord’s, will captain the one-day side. The squad for the 50-over matches includes new players, such as left-arm wrist-spinner Amandeep Kaur and pacer Akshita Bhagat, alongside Tejal Hasabnis and Anushka Sharma, who returns after missing the previous 50-over series in England.
They come into the 50-over team in place of Harleen Deol, Pratika Rawal, G Kamalini, Tanuja Kanwer, and Saima Thakor. IANS understands that Saima is currently undergoing rehabilitation for an unspecified injury. Though it is understood to be unrelated to a stress fracture, an injury common with fast bowlers, she will require time to heal fully.
