Ishan Kishan experienced a back sprain during India’s net practice on Friday, causing visible discomfort and raising fitness concerns ahead of upcoming matches. The incident occurred while Kishan was batting in the pacers’ nets. A delivery from Navdeep Saini, which was aimed between his chest and chin, forced Kishan to evade the ball, leading to the injury. The left-handed wicketkeeper-batter was seen in pain as India’s outgoing physio, Kamlesh Jain, hurried to assist him. After a few minutes on the ground, Kishan managed to walk out of the nets quietly.
The seriousness of the niggle will only be ascertained over the next 24 hours after Kishan gets adequate rest. Fresh from his exploits in the Duleep Trophy final, where he scored 270 and 80 against South Zone, Kishan had looked in ominous touch during the session. The batter was subsequently seen holding the back of his waist and did not return to bat.
He dominated the spinners’ nets, repeatedly using his attacking strokeplay to loft deliveries into the stands before the back issue cut short his practice. (Except for the headline, this story has not been edited by NDTV staff and is published from a syndicated feed.)
