India wicketkeeper-batter Rishabh Pant battled through an injury setback to score a half-century on Day 2 of the second Test against Sri Lanka in Colombo. Pant, who retired hurt on Day 1 after copping a blow to his left wrist, resumed his innings on three after Saransh Jain was dismissed early on Day 2. He was immediately targeted with a barrage of short-pitched deliveries by the Sri Lankan seamers. However, that did not stop Pant from taking on the hosts’ bowlers.

This is the 11th instance of a team scoring 400-plus in the first innings of a Test at this venue. Of the previous 10 occasions, six resulted in victories, while the other four ended in draws. During the 90th over of India’s innings, a short ball down the leg side from Lahiru Kumara was pulled by Pant over the stadium roof, damaging a solar panel and forcing the officials to seek a replacement ball. The ball had travelled 95m before landing on top of the roof. The incident quickly went viral on social media.
