Union Minister Kiren Rijiju has rejected claims that China entered 60 km into Arunachal Pradesh, saying such claims are unverified and can create confusion while the real border issue remains serious.
He said viral posts used unrelated photos, including images from Bangladesh, to support claims of Chinese troops entering deep into Arunachal. Rijiju warned that such misinformation could hurt the morale of Indian soldiers and security forces.
Earlier reporting noted: On August 11, External Affairs Ministry spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal made the remarks while responding to a question on the military situation between India and China in the Arunachal Pradesh sector and whether recent reports of a standoff had been taken up diplomatically with China. Because of security concerns, while China continued building infrastructure, he cited former Defence Minister A K Antony’s statement in Parliament that India had avoided road construction near parts of the Arunachal border.
Earlier reporting noted: The comments came days after the Ministry of External Affairs said that the state of border affairs has ramifications for overall India-China ties, adding that the two sides have agreed to use existing diplomatic and military mechanisms to “avoid misunderstanding and miscalculation” along the border.
Rijiju contrasted the current border infrastructure push with the policy followed by earlier governments.
