Just weeks after two doctors were attacked at a civic hospital in Dombivli, Maharashtra’s medical fraternity is once again on edge after an orthopaedic consultant was allegedly assaulted by a patient’s son at Bhanujyot Hospital in Kalyan.
Speaking about the incident, Dr Harbada, the owner of Bhanujyot Hospital and a consultant physician, said the doctor had patiently examined and treated the patient, who had come in with complaints of back pain. The relative kept repeating the same questions and used inappropriate language, prompting the doctor to ask him to speak more respectfully — an exchange that appears to have triggered the assault that followed, according to Dr Harbada. Visibly shaken by the incident, Dr Jaiswal said doctors spend years studying and working hard to save patients’ lives, yet instead of appreciation, they are being beaten up, calling the situation “absolutely wrong.”
Footage shows the doctor explaining the patient’s treatment and addressing the son’s queries when the conversation reportedly turned into a verbal dispute. After leaving the doctor’s chamber, the patient’s son allegedly returned within minutes and assaulted the doctor. The doctor has been identified as orthopaedist Dr Yogendra Jaiswal, who was verbally abused and beaten up after he objected to the son’s use of informal, disrespectful language during the consultation.
