Former India batter Virender Sehwag ‘s elder son, Aaryavir Sehwag, hogged the limelight with his blistering 173-run knock in a Vinoo Mankad Trophy match recently. The Delhi captain smashed 173 off just 143 deliveries against Chandigarh U-19, striking 19 fours and eight sixes after opening the innings. However, the BCCI was criticised by a section of fans for the move.

On Sunday, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) shared a highlights reel of Aaryavir’s knock on its domestic cricket social media handle.

Incidentally, Bihar U-19 batter Anmol Kumar smashed 184 off just 86 balls on the same day in the same competition. Meanwhile, Anmol’s knock came against Haryana U-19 in the Vinoo Mankad Trophy. He smashed 18 sixes and 11 fours to help Bihar U-19 post 325 runs in 46.1 overs. In reply, Haryana U-19 could only manage 288 runs and lost the match by 18 runs under the VJD method. It was raining centuries in the Vinoo Mankad Trophy as Anvay Dravid, younger son of former India skipper Rahul Dravid , also hammered a 100-ball 151 to take Karnataka Under-19 to the knockouts with a five-wicket win over Gujarat. This came after Gujarat cantered to a mammoth 357 for four in 50 overs, courtesy hundreds by Sameer Bhandari (119 not out, 88 balls) and Yash Panjwani (106, not out 57b).

Fans criticised the BCCI for not giving the same attention to Anmol, who hails from Patna, Bihar, as Aaryavir, the elder son of legendary India batter Virender Sehwag.
