In an interview with Aakash Chopra , Parthiv revealed that after being picked by RCB on the opening day of the IPL 2014 mega auction, he had suggested to them to pick up Bumrah too. Former India cricketer Parthiv Patel revealed that he had recommended Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) to buy Jasprit Bumrah in the Indian Premier League (IPL) auction – back when the pacer was relatively unknown – but the franchise had not paid heed to his advice. However, the franchise opted to go down a different route.
“I had recommended Jasprit Bumrah to RCB in 2014,” Parthiv said.
“In the 2014 mega auction, I was picked on the first day, around lunch time. In an alternate reality, therefore, Virat Kohli and Jasprit Bumrah – arguably the two greatest in their roles in contemporary Indian cricket – could’ve been on the same team.
When I received a message from them (RCB), I told them, there is a player here, look into him. Perhaps the way I told them wasn’t right,” he said. With Parthiv and Bumrah both playing for the same state side, Gujarat, the senior wicket-keeper batter had a better idea than most on what the up-and-coming pacer could offer.
