proposal for a Russia-Ukraine ceasefire on energy sites only if Washington could ensure Moscow

Oman says grounded tanker oil spill covers 400 square km

KYIV, Sept 14 – President Volodymyr Zelenskiy said on Monday that Kyiv was ready to support a U.S. proposal for a Russia-Ukraine ceasefire on energy sites only if Washington could ensure Moscow was genuinely ready to end its war on Ukraine.

Zelenskiy Responds to Trump on Energy Target Agreement

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskiy addressed recent comments made by U.S. President Donald Trump regarding an alleged agreement between Ukraine and Russia not to target each other’s energy infrastructure. In his nightly video address, Zelenskiy expressed cautious optimism, stating, “If this can become the first de-escalatory step, a step towards ending Russian strikes against our critical infrastructure and our strikes in response, Ukraine is ready to support de-escalation.”

However, Zelenskiy clarified earlier on social media that Ukraine had not formally endorsed Trump’s assertion of an agreement. He expressed skepticism about Russia’s commitment to any such deal, emphasizing that any accord must be “reliable, long-term, and actually have a real impact on people’s lives.”

Trump’s statement suggested that both nations had agreed to refrain from attacking energy targets, but the implications of this claim remain uncertain amid ongoing tensions.
