Oracle Announces Additional Layoffs Amid AI Expansion Plans
Oracle has confirmed further layoffs as part of a significant organizational restructuring. Employees received notification stating, “After careful consideration of Oracle’s current business needs, we have made the decision to eliminate your role as part of a broader organizational change. As a result, today is your last working day,” according to reports from Business Insider.
These layoffs follow a larger workforce reduction earlier this fiscal year, which saw Oracle’s employee count drop by approximately 21,000, or 13%, concluding on May 31, 2026. Prior to these cuts, Oracle employed around 141,000 individuals.
Simultaneously, Oracle is taking on tens of billions of dollars in debt to fund the expansion of its data centers, driven by the growing demand for artificial intelligence computing. In a recent regulatory filing, the company revealed it is increasing its anticipated job cuts by $700 million, pushing the total projected expense of its 2026 Restructuring Plan to approximately $2.8 billion. This plan includes severance payments, contract termination fees, and associated exit costs, with some reductions linked to the integration of AI across its operations.
The company noted that these additional expenses signify “additional actions that we expect to take” as it continues to navigate its costly AI data center expansion.
