India’s economy continues to demonstrate robust growth, with a reported GDP increase of 7.8 percent in the first quarter of the 2026-27 fiscal year. This performance solidifies India’s position as the fastest-growing large economy globally, according to Vinay Kwatra, the Indian Ambassador to the United States. Kwatra made this announcement while ringing the opening bell at Nasdaq in New York, emphasizing the significance of this growth in the context of the current global economic climate.
India’s Economic Transformation Highlighted at Nasdaq
During a presentation at the Nasdaq stock exchange in Times Square on Wednesday morning, Kwatra emphasized India’s ongoing economic and technological transformation. He pointed to a robust entrepreneurial ecosystem, enhanced digital capabilities, and a youthful, skilled workforce as key drivers of this change. These factors collectively position India for significant advancements in various sectors.
Kwatra pointed to India’s latest GDP growth for the April–June quarter and said the country remains “the fastest-growing large economy” in the world. “In that, one of the greatest pillar of our current and the emerging partnership is the partnership with the companies in the community of the technology leadership companies in Nasdaq for technology, technology-linked capital, technology infrastructure, and of course, mobility of skilled professional,” he said. This spirit resonates very strongly with India,” he said.
Kwatra described the opening bell ceremony at the stock exchange as being more than a market tradition. “It represents confidence in enterprise, innovation and the possibility of future partnership between India and the companies of the Nasdaq.
