Sarfaraz Khan taunted Dhananjaya de Silva with a cheeky remark on Day 3 of the second Test match between India and Sri Lanka in Colombo on Tuesday. Sarfaraz, who was on the field as a substitute fielder, was his usual chirpy self as he was stationed at short leg. After De Silva moved away just before Manav Suthar was about to bowl, Sarfaraz did not miss the opportunity to take a dig at the Sri Lanka skipper. “Bro, nothing is there, bro. You look straight na – why you looking left and right side (pointing to long-on and long-off)? You are just wasting time, bro. Don’t be scared. Play. You are the captain. You are waiting for this,” Sarfaraz was heard saying on the stump mic.
Suthar Strikes as Sri Lanka Falters
Suthar made a crucial breakthrough by dismissing Sri Lankan captain de Silva for just 8 runs. The delivery, which gripped and turned, caused de Silva to edge the ball, deflecting off Dhruv Jurel’s gloves before Rahul completed the catch at slip. This wicket left Sri Lanka struggling at 137 for 5, still trailing by more than 350 runs in the match.
His dismissal ended a crucial partnership and left Sri Lanka 171/6. India then made another breakthrough when Mohammed Siraj removed Niroshan Dickwella for a duck. The pacer bowled a short delivery down the leg side, and Dickwella got a faint edge while attempting to tuck it away, with Jurel completing a low catch behind the stumps. It was Siraj’s first wicket of the innings.
