Pant now has 2,948 runs from 42 Tests in the World Test Championship, moving past Gill’s 2,917 from the same number of matches. Former Indian skipper Rohit Sharma is third among Indian batters with 2,716 runs from 40 Tests, followed by veteran all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja (2,675 from 50) and Virat Kohli (2,617 from 46). Coming to the match, India reached 475/8 before rain forced an early close to the second session on Day 2 of the second and final Test against Sri Lanka at the Sinhalese Sports Club Ground on Monday, with Dhruv Jurel unbeaten on 95, just five runs short of his maiden Test century, and Mohammed Siraj at the other end.
