India’s batting coach Sitanshu Kotak clarified on Sunday that Kuldeep Yadav missed the second Test against Sri Lanka due to viral fever. He emphasized that there was no intention from the management to fabricate an illness to exclude a player from the lineup. This statement, however, appeared to contradict bowling coach Sairaj Bahutule, who had previously suggested that Kuldeep’s absence from the nets for two consecutive days was due to travel-related fatigue.
Kotak addressed questions about Kuldeep’s fitness, stating, “I don’t think that’s a relevant question. If he is not fit, how will he think if he plays or not? When he left there (Galle), he was genuinely having viral fever.” This clarification comes as the team navigates player fitness and selection ahead of crucial matches.
