In a significant achievement for Indian cricket, captain Shubman Gill reached the milestone of 3,000 runs in Test matches on Sunday. This landmark was accomplished during the second Test against Sri Lanka, held at the Sinhalese Sports Club.
Gill fourth-youngest Indian to score 3,000 Test runs
Sehwag achieved the feat at 26 years and 157 days, while Vengsarkar reached the mark at 26 years and 263 days. Gill moved ahead of former India captain Kapil Dev, who was 26 years and 356 days old when he completed 3,000 Test runs. Gill reached the 3,000-run mark in his 43rd Test match. Before the Colombo Test, he had scored 2,993 runs in 76 Test innings. His Test tally now includes 11 centuries and eight fifties, with a highest score of 269.
The second Test is crucial for India as Gill’s side look to build on their result in Galle and finish the two-match series on a strong note.
Sri Lanka also made changes to their playing XI, with Kamil Mishara making his debut and Pasindu Sooriyabandara receiving his first full game after previously appearing as a concussion substitute.
