At least six people were killed and several others critically injured in a major fire that broke out at a five-storey hotel in Tarapith, Birbhum district, West Bengal, on Monday.
The fire started at around 5 am at Hotel Bideshini, which stands beside a pond and very close to the Tarapith Police Station. Because of the hotel’s proximity to the police station, officers reached the scene quickly. Eyewitnesses reported that thick smoke engulfed the entire area within minutes.
