In the latest International Institutional Ranking Framework (IIRF) 2026, only four government medical colleges from Telangana are ranked among the top 144 in the country. This comes despite the state having 36 government institutions that collectively offer over 4,400 MBBS seats. The rankings highlight the competitive landscape of medical education in India, where performance metrics can vary significantly across institutions.
What does IIRF measure?
The IIRF rankings are based on nine broad parameters, together accounting for 100% of the assessment. These include academic reputation; graduate outcomes and employability; research outcomes; demand ratio and student profile; employer reputation and international outlook; wellbeing and institutional development; peer perception and alumni feedback; public perception and data verification; and impact and value addition. The methodology is intended to assess institutions beyond academic performance alone, taking into account factors such as research, employability, institutional development, stakeholder perception and the broader impact of an institution.
